October 2011

Another successful and well-attended American tournament was held – congratulations to Claudia Barthelt and David de la Motte for winning. This was immediately followed by our 2011 AGM, which we were able to hold outside thanks to the wonderful weather! Huge thanks to all the members who turned out and listened to reports from the President, Treasurer and Coach and thank you for all the points raised in discussion. The winners of this year’s Championships were presented with their trophies – congratulations once again to them. Andrew Steele chose to step down from the committee, so a special thanks to him for all his fantastic work for the club. Thanks also to Steve Blow and Joe Mannion for joining the committee; and not forgetting the continuing members of the committee, who have helped to make it such a successful year for the club. Following on from the AGM, we held our first monthly drinks event at The Common Room; it was very well attended and much fun was had by all! We intend to continue holding these roughly once a month, so see the events calendar on the right for the next one. And last but certainly not least the club has a shiny new rebounder! Rejoice in its resplendent glory and feel free to make use of it – it gives you a surprisingly effective workout!

September 2011

The inaugural St Columba’s Finals Day took place earlier this month and despite the best efforts of the weather, all the matches which were scheduled managed to get played. A rain-dominated early afternoon blossomed into a bright sunny late afternoon and spectators were able to enjoy a light tipple, some home-baked cakes and some great quality tennis. The men’s and ladies doubles, mixed doubles, mens and ladies singles were all played – see our tournament page for this year’s winners! Special thanks to Sue Bolger for all her hard work in bringing the day to fruition.

Continuing a month of firsts for the club, we held an Open tournament, which was attended by several players from other local clubs. The weather did its best to disrupt the proceedings but we successfully completed 4 rounds of the tournament, with our winners on the day being Sofie Rouhaud and David de la Motte. Thanks to Andrew Steele for organising this one, and we hope to repeat it in the future.

July 2011

We held our second American tournament of the year, which had similarly high levels of participation as the last one. Congratulations this time to Jane Summers and Tony Summers on their tournament success.

June 2011

June saw St Columba’s host their semi-annual Quiz Night. The weather was kind enough to stop raining just in time to allow for the barbecue, and with their stomachs settled 5 teams battled for the title of Quiz Champions. Much fun was had by all and the plentiful food and drink contributed to another successful money-raising event for St Columba’s.

May 2011

The season started on a high note with a successful Open Day: plenty of club members turned out in support and there were a good amount of potential new members in evidence too. Special mention to the weather for being so cooperative! This was followed by our first American tournament of the year; a full complement of 16 players made the event a great success, and congratulations to Jennie Scott and Shivani Raval for taking overall victory.
